Work Clothes: The Christmas Cardigan

Have I told you before what a great gift-giver Travis is? Especially when it comes to buying me clothes - the guy just kills it year after year. This year for Christmas, we set tight budgets for each other as we already spent so much on our house in 2016. He asked what I wanted and while my list had a ton of variety on it, the only real clothing I asked for were cardigans, because they'll fit me whether pregnant or not - and I've been loving them for their ability to be for work or play.

And you guys - he totally delivered, thanks to a sale at Madewell:

Humpday Bumpdate: 21 Weeks

Welcome to another Humpday Bumpdate! If you didn't catch last week's intro to the series, check it out here.

Now, on to this week's photo and details:

 photo IMG_0119_zpsdj098rsz.jpg

Here's what's going on with me now:

  • Baby Girl is: One pound!
  • Cravings/Aversions: Still loving peanut butter toast and more obsessed with ice water than usual. Especially if I can drink it through a straw!
  • Belly Button: In and a bit painful. And not as far in as it used to be, so maybe we'll see a change here at some point?
  • Feeling: My first pregnancy pains in my SI Joint. Working on my posture while sitting and standing so that it doesn't get worse, and am thinking of ordering a little lumbar pillow for my work flights, as the flights I was on last week were what started the pain.
  • Thinking of: The nursery! We finally made our first nursery purchase - a rug! Check it out below. It will be the statement of the room, for sure, as we're aiming to keep everything else pretty neutral with lots of whites, creams, and greys.
  • This Week I've Been: Looking forward to our anatomy ultrasound, which was yesterday. I feel like at this point in the pregnancy it's still easy for me to go long periods of time without feeling her kick and move, so getting that medical validation every once in a while via a heartbeat doppler or an ultrasound is such a treat. Ours went really well and now we *hopefully* won't have another one, as they don't require another one unless there are specific things they have to watch out for!

Rug is from West Elm. All the other furniture in the background is just temporarily in the nursery as we deal with our basement flooding, so this is really the first piece for her room!

Work Clothes: Oversized and Elastic

With only a few maternity purchases so far, I'm still relying heavily on clothes that fall into two categories: oversized and elastic. This extra-baggy sweater did a great job of accommodating my belly, as do these pants with an elastic waist.

Side note: how long is too long to leave that wreath on the front door? It doesn't scream Christmas with its cream ribbon and simple greenery, which is how I've been rationalizing leaving it, but eventually it will die. What do you guys put on your front doors when it isn't the holidays?? I'm feeling like 'nothing' is going to feel too bare!

Make sure to check back tomorrow for the Humpday Bumpdate: Week 21 edition! I've got our first nursery purchase to share with you all!

Work Clothes: Power Pants

If you've been reading this blog a while, you know I love my purple-ish ponte pants (see them and other colored slacks here). My engineer and I have come to call them my power pants, because I tend to reach for them when I'm stressed about work - somehow the outfit always comes together easier and makes me feel more confident when it starts with a purple ponte pant base.

As soon as I saw this maternity version, I knew I had to make them mine so that I don't have to skip that easy feeling when I'm pregnant. Here's how I wore them last week:

 photo IMG_0071_zps55cmr4yq.jpg

Pants: Old Navy
Sweater: LOFT (similar)
Booties: similar - love these ones!

 photo IMG_0069_zps3jqrhxz1.jpg

These pants currently drive me crazy - they really don't stay up and so if I'm doing any bit of walking around, they get pretty saggy in the butt. But for a day at the office with minimal walking, they work just fine. I just won't be wearing them for any travel days anytime soon!

 photo IMG_0066_zpsc4kmv8zb.jpg

And of course, how I wore it most of the day when I was out & about: with a giant coat (which I got at Costco last year) on top because it has been chilly here!

Speaking of the cold, since Seattle has been experiencing a colder winter than usual (which I know is still not as bad as where half of you likely live!), I'll be sharing some of my favorite winter remedies and treats next week! Stay tuned :)

Humpday Bumpdate: 20 Weeks

Now that I'm halfway through this pregnancy, things are changing much faster than they did in the beginning. I figured this blog would be a good place to document my growing bump and weekly changes, so if you aren't at all interested in this, avoid Wednesdays, when I'll feature my Humpday Bumpdate each week. The actual bumpdate is at the bottom of this post, but I wanted to do a quick little highlight of the pregnancy up to this point first!

First, a quick look at the early days of bump photos, when I was only taking them every month:

 photo bumps_zpsedcs4dtn.jpg

The first trimester was pretty rough - I had almost permanent nausea that I just could not get to go away, as well as some vomiting. I tried my best to combat it and found the following to be my best shot at beating it:

  • Trader Joe's Ginger Chews whenever I felt *REALLY* nauseous
  • Ginger tea a few times a day
  • Cereal or crackers in bed to start each day (and sometimes even in the middle of the night if I'd wake up feeling sick), and trying to go slow in the mornings, taking lots of breaks between showering, doing my makeup, blowdrying my hair, and getting dressed
  • Small meals often and nothing too scented or flavorful (I seriously lived on dry cereal and crackers)
  • I carried a satsuma or two in my purse at all times to sniff or peel & slowly eat if I was stuck in a smelly environment
  • Lots and lots of naps - when I was sleeping, I wasn't nauseous

Overall, really not fun. Especially considering that at this point, very few people knew I was pregnant, and I was still flying around the Northwest for work - including a trip with our CEO to Idaho for a day! It's amazing how fast you feel better though once the second trimester rolls around. I still have random episodes of nausea or extreme exhaustion, but they are NOTHING compared to how I felt early on.

We used Thanksgiving as a chance to tell our immediate families (both sets of parents, siblings, and my grandmas) that we were having a girl - we hosted here and when we took the whole family on a tour of the newly remodeled house, we had filled the nursery with pink balloons!

 photo IMG_0108_zpszamj9tno.jpg

And here I am now at 20 weeks - halfway there! Here's what's going on with me now:

  • Baby Girl is: the size of a banana.
  • Cravings/Aversions: Nothing serious yet, but I can't stop eating peanut butter toast! I'd have it for every meal with Travis would let me.
  • Belly Button: Very much in still.
  • Feeling: Really good. Lots of energy this week and I'm loving the stretched out feeling I get after every prenatal yoga class.
  • Thinking Of: Doulas. We're working on researching and interviewing a few in order to find the one we'll have with us for her birth, and I'm actually really loving the process.
  • This Week I've Been: Having the craziest of dreams. Nightmares, adventurous thrillers, and bizarre dreams have filled this week, and I'd much rather go back to the random and funny dreams I was having earlier in the pregnancy. Also this week I've been on the hunt for a few more pieces of maternity clothes, as I'm realizing that getting dressed for work everyday is really hard without a few staples!

This is the format I'll try to use every week, with a few changes as the pregnancy progresses. Would love to hear what else you'd like me to share, if anything!

January's Five Goals

 photo januaryfive_zpstgglh9rl.jpg

I fell off the goal bandwagon a bit at the end of last year, so I'll be starting from scratch this year. In future months, I'll be sure to look back at how I did achieving my goals, just like I was doing earlier in 2016. But for now, here's what I'd like to do this month:

  • Read 4 books; one for work, one for pregnancy/parenting, and at least two just for fun. Speaking of, any great pregnancy or parenting books you guys have loved? Please let me know in the comments!
  • Go to at least 10 yoga classes and walk on non-yoga days.
  • Disconnect 1 evening per week. This means no phone, computer, tv, or other technology. I'm already looking forward to all the coloring books, reading for fun, and relaxing baths this means I can indulge in.
  •  Take care of my skin before bed. I've been doing way better taking off my makeup before bed, but that's where it stops. Now its time to focus on a nighttime moisturizer (any favorites??!) as well as a good hand moisturizer for bedtime.
  • Blog at least 3x/week. Gotta get back into the groove around here, and I think 3 is a reasonable number for that. Any posts you'd really love to see? Let me know in the comments!

What are you focusing on in January? Let me know in the comments!

Linking up with Writes Like a Girl, as always.

Trav & Bri, Recently - vol. 59

A little late in the day, but better late than never, right? Aiming to do at least one of these updates per month, so I hope you enjoy it!

Recently at home
We've been starting to pick out things for the nursery, and oh my gosh it is so much fun. We're not sure what we're going to do yet, but we are considering playing with some removable wallpaper for an accent wall, and I'm pretty in love with this gorgeous teal ombre mountainscape. So many fun decisions we get to make!

Recently purchased
I've been *LOVING* my prenatal yoga class but have been feeling the squeeze of my regular Zella leggings around the belly, so I finally ordered a pair of maternity leggings I can wear to yoga. I don't love the fabric as much as I do with my Zella ones, but its so nice to have the full panel go over my belly, especially for a lot of the forward fold positions!

 photo IMG_0027_zpskqt40s8k.jpg

Recently styled
I'm still wearing as many non-maternity items as possible, and the white version of my Madewell back-button tee had to make an appearance. These pants were a hand-me-down from my mom - they have a purely elastic waistband which means they are stretching really well over this growing bump!

Recently consumed
I've mentioned before how much I love Half Baked Harvest's blog, but recently Travis and I have really been experimenting with her recipes at home. This week's favorites were this slow-cooker Chili Lime Chicken, which we made into soft tacos before the Seahawks game on Saturday (so fun to be at another W!), and this Korean Bulgogi Bowl, which we loaded up with fun toppings (mango, cabbage, cherry tomatoes, and so much more!).

Recently in love
I was so glad the Seahawks made it to the playoffs with a home game so that I could take a little baby bump picture at the stadium. Going to games together is one of my favorite things to do, and I'm so excited to know that we'll continue the tradition in future years with our baby girl in tow (rarely, I'm sure!).

Work Clothes: The Eight Dollar Dress

I've been kind of torn on the whole maternity clothes thing since getting pregnant. In the beginning, I obviously didn't need anything new. But as my body started changing, and my clothes started to become uncomfortable, I knew I needed to invest in a few pieces. On Black Friday/Cyber Monday, I got a few basics online: a few long-sleeve t-shirts from Gap/Old Navy, a pair of maternity jeans from Nordstrom, and a pair of purple ponte pants from Old Navy. And those are all getting LOADS of wear now that they are the things that fit me best.

 photo IMG_0038_zpsctreej23.jpg

But this week, returning back to work, it was time to get a few more things I can wear to work. So Travis and I decided to run to Target and see if they had anything in store. And they did! I picked up this dress (for only $8!!!!!) another one just like it but in grey and without sleeves (this one is 3/4), a plain black t-shirt, and a couple of long-sleeved shirts. I feel like now all I really need is a pair of black pants that I can wear to work, and I should be able to stretch those items for at least the next month or so, rotating them carefully and pairing them with things that will always fit: cardigans, blazers, and accessories.

Dress: Target
Cardigan: J Crew
Tights: Spanx (gift from mom - maternity tights that are SO comfy!)
Booties: Target

And for good measure, a side pic of my growing 19.5 week belly:

For those of you who are moms, what was your maternity style? Did you go out and buy a whole new wardrobe? Did you buy only 1-2 things? What were your favorite stores to shop from while your belly was growing?? Let me know in the comments!
